DP and Colorist Andrew Huebscher Selects AJA HDP2 HD-SDI to HDMI Mini-Converter for True 10-bit Signal, Performance and Picture Quality

DP and Colorist Andrew Huebscher has been working on commercials and independent films for the past fifteen years. He recently started using the AJA HDP2 converter with an HP DreamColor LP2480zx 24-inch display as part of the monitoring solution in his color-grading bay. The HDP2, which has undergone extensive testing in conjunction with the HP DreamColor LP2480zx Display, is a miniature HD-SDI/SDI to DVI-D converter for digital display devices such as LCD and DLP, and will automatically size 4:3 or 16:9 inputs to many DVI-D monitors.

"With my previous converter box, I was experiencing multiple problems, losing sync, screen flickering and was limited to working with an 8-bit signal," said Huebscher. "Since switching over to the HDP 2, I'm getting much more stability and the 10-bit signal is really valuable from a color grading standpoint. Another surprise bonus is how great the interlacing and scaling is with the HP DreamColor Display."

Huebscher is currently working on a 720p project and it's scaling beautifully to fill the HP DreamColor Display. This solution is much more effective in client assisted sessions rather than reviewing shots within a cropped frame. "I was hanging onto an old Sony CRT monitor for viewing interlaced material, but with the HDP2, I can view interlaced footage on the DreamColor monitor and it still looks great," Huebscher concluded.

"We released the HDP2 mini-converter at NAB this year, and it's been steadily gaining popularity among video, editing, broadcast and post production professionals," said Nick Rashby, President, AJA Video. "The HP DreamColor LP2480zx Display works seamlessly with the HDP2 to provide a compelling solution for reference monitoring in professional post and VFX environments."

The HDP2 is designed for general monitoring, perfect for use in applications such as post-production reference monitoring, client monitoring, presentation, projection, corporate displays, kiosk applications and more. The HDP2 also supports HDMI v1.3a Deep Color with a DVI to HDMI cable. In the HDMI mode, Deep Color is supported at 30 bits per pixel with 8-channel audio. USB connectivity allows for easy PC or Mac setup and field upgrades.
