In operation since 1986, Taiwan-based Kings Communication has provided production and post services for entertainment programs, concerts and corporate videos. The multifaceted company also specializes in Outside Broadcast (OB), lending its electronic field production (EFP) crew and OB truck, which houses several AJA solutions, to live-event productions and sports broadcasts across Asia. Its most recent projects include the HM 50th Anniversary Concert and EVA Air’s Full Membership Announcement Ceremony, a celebration of the airline’s induction into Star Alliance, the world’s leading airline network.

Having used AJA gear in its productions for years, Kings Communication’s General Manager Chung-Chou Ku said, “We looked at other competitive gear, but quickly found AJA equipment best fit our specific needs, and it’s surpassed our expectations, providing efficient performance and steadfast reliability throughout many productions, including our recent work for EVA Air.”

EVA Air began its search for a production company to record and broadcast the Full Membership Announcement ceremony live last summer and enlisted Kings Communication for the job. Kings Communication deployed an OB truck equipped with six of AJA’s Ki Pro Rack and Ki Pro digital video recorders, an FS1 frame synchronizer and a KUMO 1616 SDI router, in addition to AJA GEN10 and HD10AMA Mini-Converters, Ikegami cameras and Ikegami and JVC monitors to capture and broadcast the event live to a local news station, as well as produce and edit a final recording to be posted online after the show. 

On-site Ku and his production crew fed footage from each camera’s SDI outputs to the Ki Pro Racks and Ki Pros to record Apple ProRes 422 files. Also armed with an AJA KUMO 1616 router and KUMO Control Panel, Ku and his team lined up two HD monitors with the SDI router – connecting all six Ki Pros and Ki Pro Racks – to facilitate seamless control over the production. Once captured, the footage was broadcast live to a local station, as well as recorded and transferred to an Apple^® Mac Pro^® for editing in Apple^® Final Cut Pro^® after the event.

“KUMO simplifed our workflow by giving us a powerful control setup. It’s compact and allows us to easily switch to any Ki Pro quickly with only 2 monitors, so we didn’t have to buy extra monitors or waste time changing our Ki Pros,” said Ku. “The Ki Pros allowed us to record the entire event in a high-quality, edit-ready format, which saved us a ton of time and money. They made everything easier, because we no longer had to worry about encoding our footage.”
