3G-SDI and 12G-SDI Compact Video Routing

KUMO Overview

KUMO routers provide a convenient dense routing solution in lightweight, compact form factors for use in facilities, OB trucks, post suites and more. KUMO is available in multiple connector densities, in 3G-SDI and 12G-SDI options. KUMO is easy to update, configure, and control with optional Control Panels for quick physical access to source and destination routing, with convenient USB ports for IP configuration, plus all models offer integrated web browser access across a network over the built-in Ethernet connection.

KUMO 1616-12G and KUMO 3232-12G SDI routers enable 4K and UltraHD routing on a single BNC for rates up to 12G. With a simple setting change, KUMO routers can be configured for ganged dual and quad port routing, allowing users to group together multiple inputs and outputs for dual link, quad link 4K/UltraHD, and even 8K workflows. KUMO supports routing of uncompressed or raw 8K/UltraHD2/4K/UltraHD/2K/HD/SD signals with embedded audio throughout a production or post facility, giving you the flexibility to route virtually any format.

Remote Control Panels

KUMO CP2 and KUMO CP are optional control panels that can be used in standalone or networked configurations.

Connecting via Ethernet to the same network as the KUMO routers, KUMO CP and KUMO CP2 enables full control from any location without the need for a computer. Up to four KUMO routers can be controlled from a single control panel.

KUMO CP2 offers direct access to all 32 inputs and 32 outputs for the KUMO range up through the KUMO 3232-12G, and with a simple click of the shift key, addresses all 64 inputs and outputs of the KUMO 6464 models. This control panel also offers direct control of a KUMO router’s eight salvos.

Salvos Simplicity

Salvos allow an operator to quickly route a predefined set of crosspoints, connecting specific sources to destinations, at the push of a button. Salvos are easily created by simply setting up the desired routes and saving it to a button in the KUMO router’s Web UI.

Up to eight salvos can be stored in a KUMO router and can be instantly recalled via the KUMO router’s Web UI, GVG Native Protocol over Ethernet, RS-422, and/or the AJA KUMO CP2 Salvos buttons

KUMO Presets

This powerful feature saves current settings to 1 of 20 available Preset slots. Settings on the Configuration page are stored in the preset and any preset may be recalled at any time, returning the KUMO to the previously stored state. Items stored as part of a preset are:

1. Switching Mode
2. Crosspoint map
3. Source Button Settings: name, color, hidden/shown etc.
4. Destination Button Settings: name, color, hidden/shown etc.
5. Salvo configurations

Also included is the capability to deploy presets from one KUMO product to another. For example, the KUMO 3232-12G names can be deployed on a KUMO CP2 control panel via the router preset.

Simple Installation and Configuration

Running Embedded Linux, KUMO routers are network ready and support powerful HTTP control and monitoring via a web browser - without the need for any additional software.

KUMO's USB port connection allows easy IP configuration using free AJA eMini-Setup software. KUMO's auto-detect Bonjour™/Zeroconf protocols mean that network configuration can also be automatic, just connect KUMO to your network or a computer and the system will self-configure, ready for use. Alternatively, standard network configuration allows access to each KUMO via its default IP address. Once connected to KUMO using a web browser, you can configure the full TCP/IP settings, select and name KUMO routers, name sources and destinations, and perform all operational functions including crosspoint selection and salvo execution.

KUMO routers are easily integrated with existing infrastructure utilizing the industry-standard Grass Valley Native Protocol over RS-422 or even Ethernet. Ethernet network connectivity also allows you to control all KUMO routers from any web browser on a network-connected device, ensuring you have the control you need from any location.

Redundant Power Supplies

Routing sits at the heart of your signal matrix needs, connecting one critical device to another. To ensure maximum uptime in the unlikely event of a power supply failure, KUMO offers redundant power supply options that can failover with zero disruption to operations.

Compact Routing

KUMO compact SDI routers provide powerful signal control and support full broadcast specifications over 12G-SDI, 6G-SDI, 3G-SDI, HD-SDI and SD-SDI, with quality that exceeds SMPTE specifications. The super-compact 1RU and 2RU and 4RU formats are just a few inches deep, making them a perfect fit for any broadcast, production, or post-production environment, from mobile sports trucks and edit suites, to corporate video installations or live theatrical A/V rigs.

KUMO SDI routers are available in seven configurations:

  • Three for 12G/6G/3G/1.5G-SDI
  • Four for 3G/1.5G-SDI routing needs

12G-SDI

  • KUMO 3232-12G with 32x 12G-SDI inputs and outputs
